Aside from Todd Bradshaw, aren't there any other sailmakers on the Forum? Especially ones who can make smallboat sails like those (Awesome ones)Todd makes for canoes? Just curious.

not for any specific boat, we just don't seem to hear from anyone but todd, who is a great asset. i'm just curious why none seem to have an interest in the forum.

Sorry I saw the  and thought you were rolling your eyes at my response since it was not from a forum sailmaker.

As to Gambell and Hunter Sailmakers I spoke to them at length about sails for Dove. They are very cool they told me the type of stitching that would be appropriate for a boat of her vintage and size and are working on making a new set of sails for me as we speak.

I have to chime in for my good friend Hunter Riddle at Schurr Sails in Pensacola. They make very fine racing sails out of carbon, kevlar, pentex, etc., but they also make traditional sails for pretty much all of the 'dude' schooners around here, plus the Fish fleet (gaff rigged boats designed around 1919 or so) is pretty much outfitted with Schurr Sails.

They are great to work with and the pricing is very fair. I recommend them.

Now add Douglas Fowler up in Ithaca, NY and that may be all. I do suspect that there are one or two more small local shops out there.

To add another name, try Andy Gallison in Rhode Island -- Block Island Sails and Canvas. He has made sails from tiny up to JY-15's, Ensigns, and an asymetrical for a J-105. Also, he knows gaff as well as marconi. He has made a set of sails for me, and I have heard nothing but good things from others about his work. Price? Seems to be very competitive, as far as I can tell.

I'm looking for a sailmaker for a very peculiar boat. It's a 28' trimaran with a cat yawl rig, unstayed carbon spars and a roller-reefing Ljungstrom main.
The only part of this mix that I think I have a hope of matching in a sailmaker's experience is mid-size high-performance unstayed no-jib rigs like the Wylie Cat.
New England location strongly preferred.

You mean one of those "double-flapper jobs" like this Newick tri has?
http://www.wingo.com/newick/whitewings3-l.jpg

Unless there is something unusual about the shape that I'm not aware of, I'd suspect that any of the good lofts mentioned above would be able to build one. I suppose I'd wonder a bit about trading my roach area for reaching for the two-ply convenience downwind, but I haven't used one so I can't say much. It would seem to me that the really tricky part is figuring out how much the mast is going to bend in various conditions. Mast bends - sail goes flat - can be very good at times, can be very bad at times. Sometimes answering such questions is largely a matter of "sea-trial and error" and the best sailmaker may be the one who has built the most sails for that particular boat/mast combination and who may have had a chance to get some feedback on how well they worked. Who does the designer suggest?

For traditional and traditional-looking sails in Canada (and I'm sure she'll ship to the USA and abroad), I reccommend Michele Stevens (http://www.tallships.ca/sailloft/Tradition/tradition.html) whose loft is just outside Lunenburg. She has built sails for Picton Castle, Theresa E. Connor, and has just landed a contract to build a new mainsail for Bluenose II. She also does small sails for boats such as Bluenose Class sloops, riding sails for lobsterboats, and many other small craft.

Todd, the boat is a Newick Spark. Same concept as White Wings (picture) but 80% as big, lighter in construction and relatively taller in the rig. Dick drew vertical battens to get the roach back, but that's the least of the uncertainties. I figure that of the several departures in this rig, the only one I'm likely to get some experienced guidance with is the bendy mast. We're getting ready to engineer the mast and the sailmaker's input is needed very soon.

Here's a plug for Andrew Soper, another great Canadian sailmaker. He recently built one of the nicest mitre-cut flying jibs for me I've ever owned. A great guy and a traditionalist who also knows how to make go-fast stuff. No website but here's his info.

My particular need is for experience with unstayed bendy masts. The mainsail will be about 275 ft^2.
