I'm planning on building a banks dory this summer and have everything I need material wise but I'm having troubles finding any kind of boat nails. It seem that ringed dory nails are a thing of the past and I can't even find clench nails. Does anyone have any suggestions for suppliers? I'd really appreciate any help as I'm eager to get started. Thanks a lot.

Check out www.noahsmarine.com (http://www.noahsmarine.com) as well as Jamestown Distributors, I think even Lee Valley Tools may have bronze ring nails.

I don't know about rusting wood but Jamestown Distributers in Rhode Island has all sorts of neat fasteners and other stuff.
The links function off the home page ought to get right to them.

Hello from a fellow maritimer. Lee Valley does indeed have bronze ring nails you can check them out online. I found by the time you pay the exchange rate for getting things from the states it's usually cheaper to source it in Canada. Try a place called "The Binnacle" in Halifax. I know Leckeys in Halifax used to carry some fastenings as well. If you want to go to the States then Hamilton marine is the place to look. There online and in Searsport Maine. You could go for a weekend, buy everything you need to build the boat, ogle some really nice wooden boats in the Camden- Brooklyn- Rockland area and smuggle everything back to avoid duty. P.S. I get up to F'ton every once and a while if you want to talk boats drop a line
