A friend of mine worked on the disassembly of an old motorized wooden schooner that used to haul pulpwood on the St-Lawrence. He salvaged the 4-foot radar array and the cabin unit, but not the cables. It was working when it sailed in for repairs in 1985.
It's too big for my lobster-type boat, I guess, but would it be still worth testing and maybe putting up for sale? Are these products very age-sensitive?
Despite the -15F this morning, we are starting to look at the river....

Doubtful. If it worked when it came out, it might work still for a while longer, but '80s era radars are generally impossible to find parts for. One boat I worked on had one, and every time it needed maintenance the service guys would have a good laugh and order parts from India, since the only source for parts was from other boats being scrapped....

Thanks, JeffH. A friend who is a retired tug captain just told me the same thing. I thought he was down in NC, but he is back. He says that his brother, a fishing boat owner in the Gulf of St-Lawrence, often has bargains in this field as fishermen replace their équipment periodically.
I'm going to close this post.
