My father has a Rockwell table saw, with a 1 1/2 horse (220 Volt) belt-driven Rockwell motor on it.

The motor seems weak, and stalls easily. The saw itself is not bad.

I'm thinking of getting him a better motor. What should I get, and what offers the best value for the dollar?

I have an old rockwell as well. Mine is 110v but have had the stalling problem in the past. Make sure the armature and feilds are clean. I found that cleaning mine out made a world of differnce. I periodically blow it out with air now. smile.gif

Yep. Clean the motor and if that doesn't do it, get the motor to a repair shop. Like as not the motor's ok - just needs serviced. If the shop says it's pooped out, they can also point you toward a suitable replacement.

Of course, Indy's only a 5 1/2 hour drive. Should you tire of the whole mess, I'll come pick it up. smile.gif
