Hi, I am about to embark on my first, very simple boat (a plywood pram) but I live in Mid-Minnesota and have not been very successful finding suppliers for marine plywood, epoxy, etc. Does anybody know of a good company I can have deliver these to me or better yet, one that is within driving distance? Thanks.

Must be cabin fever, seems to be more posts from MN this week. The sources for plywood above are good. One other thing to try, is talk to your local lumber yard. They can get it from their suppliers. You have to know what you want, and ask with a smile. http://media5.hypernet.com/~dick/ubb/smile.gif For resin look here, http://www.westsystem.com/ West shows 22 dealers in MN Or here, http://www.northwestcanoe.com/store/building_supplies.asp , and here http://www.canoe-kayak.org/ .

Thank you very much, I am overwhelmed. I think it must be cabin fever. I got a new fishing rod for Christmas and it has only gone downhill from there.

Most of Eagan is now in area code 651 (including Wayne Meier's business phone), but some numbers remain in 612 (lots of pagers) or were moved to 952 if they were ... well, they were. It's still the phone company.

Is The Boat House, in St Paul, still open. The owner was doing rep. work for West, I think, at the Boat Show in South Haven. I don't recall the name. He seemed to be knowledgeable about epoxy.

I'd heartily second the recommendation for Elmo's Hardwood in (where else?) Lake Elmo. They have some very nice meranti marine plywood in stock for a reasonable price, about $28 for 6mm 5-ply, last time I checked, and they'll sell you half sheets of 19mm 13-ply for rudders and centerboards. Good stuff. They also have a lot of hardwood in stock, and can mill it to order if you like.

I've always ordered my epoxy from System Three, but you can buy West System stuff (standard retail prices) at Seven Seas in Mpls, at Dale Hedtke's Boat House, and even at West Marine (on 394 out toward Wayzata).

Dale Hedtke's The Boat House, Small Boat Shop has, sadly, gone out of business. He has closed the doors. He may dabble in this realm still however in some form.
