Reached a milestone of sorts, the planking has reached the LWL at both ends. So this seems like a good time to show how it is progressing. Sorry for the poor lighting on the stern view. I will take more photos on a better day.

Very impressive Ken. I looked for your shop yesterday on my return from the lumber yard. Passed 50 barns between Rt4 and 27, but no sign of Tally Ho.

How many frames will you steam in after planking?

Hi Abe, I am on a back dirt road on the Candia/Deerfield line. Yahoo map is pretty good, some of the other on-line maps get confused about my location. Visit anytime.
There will be 13 pair of bent frames, to go in after the planking. some of the planks only held on with deck screws so they can be removed for clamps when bending the frames.

Yup, already started on the 2x2, got 1 dog, negotiating on #2, have 2 cats, the squirels - flying, red & gray, chipmonks & mice have already moved in, the deer, moose, bear, porcupine, racoons & possums stop in every day to check progress. When the water gets up here (700 ft above sea level) we will be ready. smile.gif

Ken ,a question if I may ?I just read your web site and you mentioned your alternating sawn and bent frames...could you give the dimension of the sawn frames/ layers and the fastenings between layers ? Thanks again for the photos .

Sweet curves. Serious woodworking. Do you fill the hole with wood shavings? Seems like you'd have a ton after all that shaping. Cool idea to alternate sawn/bent frames - makes perfect sense. Is that common?

Now that is absolutely beautiful - congratulations!

All of the frames are 2-1/4 square for bent, parallelogram for sawn. The sawn are made in 2 halves with the futtocks finger jointed on an edge scarf. Everything is glued with resorcinol with the two halves copper riveted for mechanical fastening as well as glue.
Down below where the ceiling will be I left the inside of sawn frames square on the inside, no sense removing weight down below.
I’ve seen combination sawn & bent in books and in some other boats, saves making molds, I like the strength and flexibility of bent frames, but had some concern about bending and twisting 2-1/4 sq. oak around those curves in the stern, indeed I had problems bending frames on the model so where the problems started at frame 25 I started the sawn frames for all locations.
Shavings in the hole, at least they are confined, the leaves blowing in from outside are a bigger problem. Rake it out every day.
Most of the operations that create shavings are done in the barn or the house basement.
