Last night I made the last frame for my Gardner outboard skiff:

Answering the certain question in advance, yes, I removed the pain from the wood under the places it's glued with epoxy. This is antique salvaged Douglas fir.

This weekend, if the rain slacks up, I hope to start setting up the building form.

Best regards from the Rez,

No wonder you're getting so much done. ;) :D

How do you like working with Douglas Fir?
My Lyman is 1961 Doug Fir Ply.
Strong, light, rot resistant.
Are you working with solid wood and what kind of fasteners do you use?

I do like it. It splinters easily, blades have to be sharp! The frames themselves are solid salvage lumber, the gussets are ply. Screws are hot-dipped galvanized, dipped in epoxy.

I had just enough to finish out the parts shown above. The rest of the framework will have to be cypress. Not a problem, especially for the chines, because I find cypress bends a lot easier than fir. It's antique salvaged cypress, too.

The stem, by the way, is fir in the center and the side laminates are cypress.

Best,
R
