Latest email from Sweet Thing....The hull of Tana Mari has been cleaned of all the accumulated stuff (oil etc) that it collected from Thailand across the pacific and around the horn to Odessa...a big ugly mess actually...The hull is painted an off white..slightly gray color and once cleaned Sweet Thing says looks like a brand new boat. The yard asked about how old was the paint and was surprised at more than 3 years...almost 4.....Then they waxed it....
The paint is "BOERO" an AWLGRIP Paint made in Italy and available overseas at about 25% of U.S. Brands. I don't know the availability in the U.S. but it might be something to look for.....

Awlgrip trivia:
I don't know about Boero, but on their website, US Paint says DON'T WAX AWLGRIP. Not surprisingly they have their own preparation a "synthetic polymer sealer." I've used it and loved every boat we put it on. 300% easier than wax to apply, and it doesn't break down like wax over a few months. The shine just kindof fades down and you apply more. Also, it doesn't attract dirt like some waxes seem to.
Cheers!

yup...built her and gonna build an upgrade....
Sorry....I used the generic term "wax" but it's in a half gallon bottle so it's probably the same stuff and not really wax...sorta like a clear coat product....

Nope..not first boat....If'n you're agonna build one like this yourself in your garage (Ha) plan on 4-8 years.....this sucker is 42 feet on deck and 38000pounds..........previous boats...plywood sunfish, Thunderbird 27 foot...31 foot Piver AA-31....Brown Searunner 31 38 foot Bruce Roberts Offshore 38....and finished a couple other peoples projects. Tana Mari wuz built in Thailand where I wuz living and I hired a bunch of out of work folks at a local yard (they were temporarily unemployed) and built her. She is a slightly stretched and modified Lyle Hess 40 and he doesn't want to admit it was originally his design..although I think she sails better than his design etc....I am working on the drawings for the next one to be 45 feet on deck but a completely new design, same genre'.
