Have seen some really buildable small schooners, that might just be trailerable. Garden has one that is about 25 feet with cabin that I could build with a lot of effort. Just wondering about some way of having two folding mast to make it really trailerable? Want to do some kind of rig like the weekender line uses with out a lot of extra rigging.

just pondering and would like your thougths.

25' trailerable schooner with folding masts? You ya gonna call? Phil Bolger, of course.

St. Valerie (http://www.devlinboat.com/usedboats.htm)

Both masts are in huge tabernacles. Mr. bolger has another boat about 28' LOA with similar arrangement, if I remember correctly. My memory is always suspect. Both boats were written up in WoodenBoat Magazine a few years back.

Next up is the Atkin schooner Florence Oakland.

You will have to design the mast lowering arrangement yourself.

Remember: 8' beam for worry free trailering coast to coast to coast.

Enjoy!

Well, let me think. Did you follow the link? The name is there. Oh, ok, St. Valerie.

OK, a nice Bill Garden schooner. 24' LOA x 8' Beam. Legally trailerable, I suppose. 3' Draft. Oops. Trailerable with a 1 ton Dually. Maybe. Launchable with a crane or Travelift. Now, would you like to look at a 24' x 8' boat that you can actually trailer, launch and sail without hiring a support crew or heavy equipment?

Actually, the sliding gunter rig is essentially a folding mast. A sprit rides vertically up the mast (think very steep gaff) pulled by the halyard, and through a ring at the top. It almost doubles the height of the mast. Or halves it, depending on which way you're going.
