Just wanted to let yall know, I finall got my boat in water!
1957 CC Cavalier 15' Utility, been rebuilding for almost 3 years.
All went well no leaks, but discovered the generator was heating up wires. yea I know should have checked it but I had just got it back from being rebuilt , had a new cutout.
I took a short cruise with wires disconnected anyway. Man nothing like the feeling of cruisin around in this project.. all new wood and varnish
spent last summer on varnish ya know it looks good
After I got back home I wanted to do some trouble shooting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
So I cleverly devised a way to run engine on land.. a modified plunger-hose hook up...
Took coupling apart .....clever eh?
Hooked trailer to truck started out of shop (didn't want to get water in shop) hey I think I didn't latch trailer hitch, being of quick mind stopped truck.. no problem.
Then skillfully maneuvered boat beside shop but within reach of garden hose/plunger thing.
So fer so good ..
Then I think ya know this boat ain't too level.
Shoot Ill just unhook it and let it rest on the little wheel thing on trailer.. yea
So I unhook it then lower it ahhh nice and level
Feeling proud of my ideas and thinking ahead to what I was going to do next
I get back in truck to pull it out of the way
Heard a "funny" noise
Looked back and the damn boat trailer is rolling!
Yup down the slight incline..
Jumping from truck, thinking what body part I could put between boat and whatever it was going to crash into..
CRASH!!!!! into the new wood fence I put up a couple of months ago...................
insert multiple bad words here:
damage ,,,, 1 trailer light
scuffed and scraped varnish at rub rail
gouged place at transom near splash rail right where the transom and side joint it (corner)
you cant guess how ummm upset I was/am!
Could not sleep last night figuring how to repair.
Anyway I have chiseled damaged wood and have pieced a patch in... I think with some stain and varnish wont look tooo terrible.
Just wish there was somebody else to blame sometimes... I'm still mad at Me.
Talked to guy who rebuilt generator he said oh you just have it wired wrong its supposed to be positive ground... so while Im waiting for the varnish to dry on repair..... I'll take the generator back to have it re rebuilt for polarity and rotation
