I had the great pleasure today of visiting Ron and Nadine Klebba and seeing the progress Ron has made building his new L. Francis Herreshoff Rozinante! This is the only amateur built Rozinante I know of currently under construction.
I first met Ron 2 years ago when I first started the www.havenbuilders.com (http://www.havenbuilders.com) web site. I visited him and sailed his beautiful Haven 12 1/2. Pictures of it were some of the first posted on the site.
His Rozinante will be built similarly. It will be planked with 3/4" cove and bead cedar strips
and covered with 6 oz. glass cloth. Pictures of the new Rozinante are on the www.rozinante.org (http://www.rozinante.org) site at: http://www.rozinante.org/ronklebba2.html
Ron plans to cast his own keel and reports that "...A 2 1/8 inch diameter hole was bored
through the deadwood into the hull about 4 ft. long. A Yanmar, single cylinder 10 h.p. engine will be installed. The ribbands are all on as are the frames. The construction process has moved along at a fairly steady pace. The stems are laminated mahogany (14 laminated layers) as well as are the keel, deadwood and floor timbers
(mahogany). The lofting process was interesting and very fascinating. I'd recommend it to anyone considering building a boat."
