How's this for a hidden talent in one of our members? I suppose you could call it a self-portrait, painted by the artist sailing his boat Shaula single-handed to Bermuda.

What year was the voyage, Jack? (And do you happen to be taking commissions by any chance?)

The Purple Pumpernickel? You don't mean the Purple People-Eater do you mate? Or, er, let's see, could it just possibly have been the Scarlet Pimpernel? Har.

Anyway, there's no need to seek him here. Or there, either. Jack Dillon's the man. Here we've been associating with this guy for how long? and now we find out he's been a closet painter all the time -- hiding his light under a Purple Pumpkin, in fact.

PDG, isn't it?

So a quiet achiever is our Jack?... excellent painting isnt it? I wonder how he got that perspective... musta been kinda hard being out on the dinghy while paintin himself sittin back in the cockpit  Pastels watercolors or oils?

Mike,

The single handed voyage was 1986 right after the Statute of Liberty thing. The boat is a Vancouver 27' home made of F. Glass with balsa core. The guy I bought it from was finishing up a divorce. I had to complete the inside and fit her out for cruising and voyaging. I had that boat for 15 years, 11 living aboard. It took 6 days to get to Bermuda and 11 to get back to Stamford CT.

I never thought Mike would post the pix. I was moaning the woes of the writing game and was contemplating doing boat portraits to supplement my income.

Thanks Shane for the compliment. I'm sure there are many other artists here on the Forum. Maybe this will flush em out. ;)
