Hi every one,thought I'd share some photos of Newport and some of the daily sights on and near the water.I'll put more if I ever get this #@#$%!Digital camera.

This I believe is a 10 square meter Hereshoff at the MOY(museum of yachting)Ft Adams.I've been watching them work on this for a good part of the summer.It is really getting stunning.The light isn't very good so it's not as dramatic as real life.

This is Rum Runner II She was the fastest boat on the bay and an actual rum runner during prohibition times.

Thanks for the photo's . Courageous !!. Do you always crew on her? what a thrill that would be.

BTW.That sq metre boat looks like a 22 or 30 to me at a glance. It would be quite a bit bigger and more robust looking if it was a 10 metre.

I was told it was a 10 square but I really don't know.I'll ask some one else and get back to you.It isn't all that big,maybe 25" loa..I assume that 10 sq.m is not the same formulation as 12 m.?

I've been a volunteer on courageous for 2 years now(more sanding and sail folding,yet quite a few good sails :D :D .I just missed out on a delivery to Martha's Vineyard(a missed signal :mad: )for the classic regatta.I haven't been in race conditions yet but I feel I will be soon.Yes it really is a kick,I saw an ad in the papar about it and it's been a blessing because I'm around so many knowledgable people.And you can't beat OPB(other peoples boats)when some thing breaks.Last year there were $1.2 million in upgrades.

If that L F Herreshoff meter boat is the same one they've had there for a few years, it has a very interesting forward 'hatch'... a section of the cabin forward of the mast slides on it's own tracks IIRC. :eek: :cool:

I was a volunteer at the Museum Of Yachting. It is a 30 Square Meter. The Museum had, and may still have two. OREOLE (probably the one in the photo) was designed by LFH for "Sis" Hovey, and she did very well with it. I have sailed it.

The other is CYTHERA, which has been slowly undergoing extensive repairs. It may be done and sold by now. It was designed and built by Knud Reimers, and spend a number of years at either Nantucket of Martha's Vinyard before coming to the Museum.

Ok folks it's official - 2004 WB Show Fort Adams, Newport, Rhode Island, July 23-25.

So here's how it works. That's a year for everyone to get their crap together, talk their significant other into it, quit the Forum, come back to the Forum, save up, make plans, etc.

A year to plan means there's no excuses for distance - that means you O&O West and O&O Midwest - ya' folla????

RI Singer can chime in, but I don't recall any lodging going out toward Fort Adams. The Viking was without a doubt the worst (and most expensive) place I've stayed in the U.S., Vanderbilt Hall is wonderful and right down town, but a little on the steep side and we're looking at staying 4+ nights. I'm trying to get through to the Royal Plaza Hotel (http://www.royalplazahotel.net/index.htm) but have been left on hold not once, but three times now. There's probably one poor guy there by himself. I'll try back in a couple of hours and report on rates.

We've stayed there before - kindof on the way out of town, but if you gotta get in your car and drive anyway, what the heck? It's almost new, super nice, and super clean (at least it was last year).

I'm just making this up as I go along, so everyone feel free to chime in, but Joe (CSOH) and RI Singer should tag-team a cookout. You guys pick the night and location, and everyone can be there or miss out.

On Monday the 26th, I'll lead an expedition to Concordia Company in South Darthmouth.

Now get busy getting those plans together!!!!

I'll be there. The recently retired president of the MOY is also a retired president of the museum I work in, and has offered his spare bedroom to my son and I...woo hoo.
