I read the book, it was a vacation read. I don't think I'd go to see the film based on the book.

Yeah, I saw it with my youngest daughter Friday. Kind of a modern-day Indiana Jones thing. I'm not real crazy about Cussler, but I had fun with the movie, and I'll tell you, the scenes with the Ironclad 'Texas' (I understand Matthew MacConaghay produced the movie?) were awesome. My daughter was bent over in her seat with her hand over her ears. I probably would have been but it was so fascinating to watch. Best part of the movie, imo.

what kind of ironclad was it?
the real Css texas was almost completed at richmond virgina when the city was abandant in april of 65. whe was a dimond class casemate with fixed slopeing walls. the casemate wasas short as possable and iirc held tw guns the forward being able to fire out of one side and the aft gun able to shoot out of the other. the pilot house was in the for or after deck because their was no room in the casemate for the helmsman platform.
the armor was 6 inches thick and the small casemate was such for both lack of armor and relitively shallow displacement.
the only one of the captial fleet to be captured she was towed to new york and sold in 1867
