I've sailed for 50 years and now it's time to acquire a classic power cruiser. I have in mind something like a 40-45' Stephens type to live aboard and travel. What do I need to know about acquiring this type of vessel beyond the obvious like a proper surey? I want one on the East Coast as I live in NC(I see several in the Seattle area).. Any special ways or places to look or any major problems with this type of yacht? Thanks

Same structural issues as sailboats, minus the rigging. The real kicker is what shape the mechanicals are in. Many of the larger classic powerboats are loaded with equipment... not just engines, but plumbing, galley, electrical, etc, etc. A lot of it is long out of date and parts may be impossible to find. This is particularly so with propulsion systems. Really take a good look at the engines... they cost the most to replace.
