I wonder if anyone can give me any pertinent info on a Lapworth 32 circa 1958? I did a pretty extensive web search but found very little about it (though what I did find was very complimentary.
I'm looking at one that is extremely well outfitted equipment-wise but needs _lots_ of work to put back in shape for cruising. The hull (apparently mahogany strips) looks pretty solid - checking under all the floorboards didn't reveal any rot that I could find. It needs a new transom, new glass topside, lots and lots of details. But it looks like it would be a really good blue-water boat - top quality hatches, solid spars, lots of high-quality winches, everything well through-bolted, and so on. It has a Yanmar 13hp diesel. The price is below $2,000.
Thanks!
PS: I accidentally posted this in "Misc. non-boat related. Ignore it if you see it there!

I dont know anything about them but at that price you cant go wrong as long as you have the space ,time and money to do it.
I'm not advocating it, but how much could you get for the various bits and pieces if you sold them off? I bet it would cover your purchase price.

Thanks. Yes, I did think of selling pieces, but only if financial disaster struck! The worst thing I can think of finding out about is the keel is ready to fall off (the bolts and the wood around them look fine up top, but I didn't pull one). But even a couple of grand there would probably still be worth it, no? Or am I way off on such a cost guess?
Daniel, I'd suggest a good survey. We have several members in your area, who will probably see your posts and can point you to a surveyor.
Welcome to the forum.
PS...I noticed "landmines" as an interest in your profile. Just curious..what is your interest in landmines?

Dear Donn,
Thanks very much. I hope someone will contact me.
My interest in landmines is in eradication, on the technical, not political, side. I invented a machine, which turned into a whole enterprise. You can read about it at www dot TerraSegura dot org.

Wow- if the boat suits your needs, and you don't mind doing the work, it sounds like a great deal! I've seen similar boats here in the Seattle area- very nice traditional lines, kind of the west coast version of a concordia style boat.
The land mines are an interesting issue. I was pleased to learn not long ago that all US manufactured land mines now deactivate/degrade after a certain relatively short period of time, leaving them harmless. Unfortunatly, we only make a small percentage of those used. :(

Thanks for the encouragement, Conrad. I've decided to try to get it. Anyone down here interested in partnering with me? smile.gif
Yes, US mines do deactivate or self-destruct, with a very high probability. That only leaves all the other "non-mines", such as cluster munitions, that can be even more deadly post-conflict.
