My lovely and understanding wife and I went along to the boat show the other day. Spent many hours wandering around looking at all the latest gadgets and plastic ski boats (you know they're putting roll-bars on skiboats to hold driving lights and multiple loudspeakers so the idiots can ski at night and play loud music while they do it?....terrific idea....).
I was keeping an eye out for all the timber boats....well, out of the hundreds of plastic and alloy boats there, I found three - two very nice looking mahogony speedboats and a stitch and glue pram dingy being assembled by a group of older guys in the back of the Wooden Boat Associations booth. It was a bit sad to hear when someone told me the pretty mahogony speedboats were actually ATL Composite with a thin bonded laminate over the outside to give the looks.
That means that out of multiple millions of dollars worth of boats at the show, they only timber boat was a humble pram dingy.... ( I got a set of plans for nothing, so I think I'll build one for fun)

Sounds about typical... you sure your in Sydney and not in Wait Awhile? I mean we have "boat" shows with megamillion gazillion dollar plastic fantastics whithout even a single wooden boat! NOT ONE!!!!... "wood? why would you have a wood boat? woodenboats rot and sink"... duhhhhhhh so does one of your yippy yahoo flamin plastic ones sink yer flamin noddy!

I gave up going to these things after last years attendance at the Mandurah Boat Show {supposedly a rival for the big one in Queensland} and then up to Hilarys for the one up there at neither was their one boat that wasnt plastic goop! not a single wood boat among them... so I considered what to do since it cost a near left gronicle to get through the gates to look at these things which I detest and desided that the money spent was better off in my own pocket than proping up some show pony place.

Perth NEEDS a woodenboat show!! wonder how I can get one arced up here?? mmmm gotta get my thinkin cap on I reckon

Glad you scored the free plans!!! thats a definant bonus!

Yeah, I know what you mean....really only made the effort to go as I wanted to put the wife aboard a Seawind 1000 which we're chartering next year up north of Townsville. Wanted to be sure she liked the boat. And I wanted to be sure I fit the bunks without the feet swinging in the wind..... smile.gif plenty of room.

I missed the last wooden boat show in Sydney, the next ones in Hobart....have to wait two years for it to come back here - now theres some nice eye candy that turns up at that show.... smile.gif
