"Her back aching and fingers sore, a French woman rowed into French Polynesia on March 25 after a grueling 4,287 mile solo voyage across the Pacific. With the 72-day voyage, Maud Fontenoy became the first woman to cross the Pacific in a rowboat. She had set out from the Peruvian port of Callao on Jan. 12, to trace the epic 1947 crossing by Thor Heyerdahl and his team on the balsa raft Kon-Tiki.
