Maritime Life and Traditions #21 has a thorough article for all of you and it is hot off the press. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

You are so right, the article is great as was the previous one in ML&T #19. I have long looked forward to these pre-announced articles as I own a badly decrepit Hardanger Faering that I am attempting to restore. I originally thought it to be about 100 years old by the look of the wood but it may be only about 80 years as it is copperr rivited. Her construction is exactly as shown in ML&T with natural grown crooks for frames and all strakes and frames have the scribed moulding. She's built just like the Osberg boats of 800 AD that I saw in Oslo. When she was given to me about 1982 her keel was cracked and the two lower planks had badly worm eaten seam laps and she had seen many years of obvious misuse. I am attempting to restore the entire backbone and four lower strakes as accurately as possible. It is much harder than building from the beginning. So these ML&T articles are of immense value to me. How she came to be in Los Angeles I'll probably never know. I call her GLEDE, Norwegian for FREUDE of the Shiller poem of Beethoven's 9th symphony.
