Came across this item in the *Good Old Boat* newsletter:
I work for the Boy Scouts in Islamorada FL, I just got a phone call from a gentlemen wishing to donate a classic, a 1937 40-foot Alden that he has had sitting in his backyard for some time. The boat need serious work but is still floating fine on her own bottom. He is looking to give this boat away and, as I have limited knowledge about wooden boats, I had to decline the offer of donation. In talking with this guy, he said he would give to anyone that wanted it! All that is there is a hull, no rig (ketch Originally), and no motor. I just feel like it is my part as a sailor to get the word out about this classic before something bad happens to her although she has been through numerous hurricanes and appears totally unscathed from it. This boat is in POOR Shape, but the bilge is dry, and she floats! Let me know if you have any ideas about anything I could do to help save this pretty old boat.
Thanks, Marc Crutcher BSA Florida Sea Base Islamorada, FL office 305.664.5634\ cell 502.718.2969 FSBBoatYard@Yahoo.com
