I have not gotten any comments on the damage just 2 photos of areas that my correspondent thought damaged.

This second is of the rudder area.

Agreed they could be closer but, he is staying out of the way of yard personnel.

Thanks, Dave.
It is interesting to see just how strong the construction can be in a young vessel.

Thanks again, Dave.
Good photos.
Built right, it looks like. Irving & Exy are doubtless both smiling down on their namesakes now.

Ayup Gary, looks to me, at least in the photos that the stem and forefoot took a good beating.

Latest from my correspondent.
"At present, bowsprit removed along with fairing beneath it.
There was a holed (not completely) plank beneath the patch and in that area a
number of planks have been removed and it appears about 9 have been marked
for removal in that area of the port bow.
I also see some planks marked for removal on stbd bow (garboard).
this is the first time I got to get a close look at the rudder on the port
side ..... there's a large chunk missing near the lower gudgeon/pintle area
(will need rebuild?). Also it appears about 3' of worm shoe gone back here.
A number of seams have been reefed out over areas of the hull, near keel and
especially aft along keel and skeg .... whether this is checking for
possible sprung planking or seams or preparatory to removing more planking, I don't know."

Cool! Thanks for the updates.
I hope they know/appreciate how many folks were worried about their vessel.

Looks like more than minor damage. I hope some of us responded to the call for funds. Repairs needed for USCG inspection and continued certification can be more expensive than normal. Thanks for the info, Dave.

"Been there, done that thing!" in 37ft scale! ;)
Very reminiscent of the damage to my boat, "Mirelle", after the October '87 hurricane in the UK, in which another boat parted her mooring and struck "Mirelle", parting her own mooring; she dragged up a beach and hit a stone quay.
Quite a lot of the damage was diagonally transferred damage - this is typical of conventional wood construction.

Agreed this one could be clearer but, beggars can't be choosers.
Or so says I.

Tis clear that the only thing that should be "on the rocks" is good scotch! ;)
It is quite clear than neither boats nor good scotch be "on the rocks"!

Well-built and lucky, or she'd look far worse than that, I'm thinking...

An update from my correspondent....
"It appears that the reason we haven't seen any action on this boat, is
that they are waiting for the outcome of a bidding process to see who
will actually perform the work.
Bids are to be opened in next few days."
Yeah right, with the vessel opened up, there are going to be other bidders?
Must be some sort of insurance thing,no?

Word is that the Irving Johnson will be good as new around the end of the year.
