Hey, cool boat.
My first command was what was called a 'paddleboat', on a lake in Michigan. It was a square punt about eight feet long, much less lithe than your sit on, but the same double paddle theme.
Pete Culler once observed that the best boat for a youngster or a neophyte was a row boat. To be in close touch with wind and water and under your own power teaches so much. Not to disagree but to amplify: I think a double-paddle boat is probably better. You get to see where you're going for one thing. smile.gif
We'll(or I will anyway)forgive your subtle self-promotion, even though against the rules.
Interesting boat. Good luck with it.

Finastkind.
Given that JEM was asked, I don't think it self-promotion. We have a number of pros on this forum who answer questions and are likely contacted off-forum for fuller services.
Anyway, I've been fussing about for a wee double paddle boat for Mary Ellen and the sit-on-top might be a good compromise. Plenty of time till winter to contemplate that one . . .
Sorry all. I truly didn't mean to self promote. I'm prouder than a peacock of how it turned out and handled on the water.
Just wanted to do a little braggin as a builder and not a plans seller. I feel like a little kid with a new toy!
Shelley (you see her in one of the photos) had never paddled a kayak before but took to it like a duck to water (pun intended). I'm not sure if she's a natural or what. But she enjoyed it enough to start asking when I was going to build hers!

I think your posting is fine JEM. Great boat! I hope you sell a bunch.
Gawd, if people just thought a little. To give a kid at ten or twelve that boat, instead of weaning them on two-cycle motors and jetskis!
You're doing your part to make the world a better place my fellow. More power(um hope, favor, chutzpa smile.gif ) to you.
