taken 2 christmases ago. The boys made their way to Waione. adults all on another boat. Tom, who turned 8 today incidentally, was in charge of his 3 pals.( aged 6 at the time).
"look after your mates, you're responsible, you're the host, offer them some drink and food, no going on deck without jackets, you can take them off below and in the cockpit"

They had a ball.

Ahh, she is SUCH a beautiful boat John, feel free to post every last picture you have mate. That stern quarter view is breathtaking - what a lovely sheerline.

Speaking of nice pictures, page 25 of the current issue (=June 2003) of "Cruising Helmsman" (do you get it in NZ?) has a recent picture showing John Wray's "Ngataki" (looking like she's in magnificent condition, I might add) reaching across Hout Bay, South Africa, with "Cooee", an 1893 Bailey beating across the bay astern of her under full sail, gaff topsail and all. What a great pair! I wonder if Ngataki will ever return to NZ? Would she be given the same status as Baileys and Logans if she did?

Hi Tony. I'll look out for that. It always amazes me that Cooee has done so many sea miles. I never would have thought that she was the right type at all. I saw a novel in a shop the other day written by her owner. Jill Knight?
I think Ngataki would be in a place of her own. She's a special boat and would deserve it.Not that the classics are really appreciated by the wider community here anyway. Some of the boats would be worth a lot of money elsewhere. here, you have to give them away practically. It is changing slowly though.
