A guy that works for me showed me a picture today in HotBoat magazine of a PlayCraft Pontoon boat with twin Mercury 300hp outboards going through the traps at 81 mph.

I gotta ask................. WHY? What were those dudes smoking?

I've seen that exact boat before. They fared out the under the deck with sheet aluminum to create a tunnel hull effect. At speed it looks very very scary, like it's going to blow over with the least little bit of wind gust from ahead. At rest, the rear deck is awash from the weight of the two big motors.

But to tell the truth, it seems more practical than the guy in our marina with the ~27' cat with the twin 300HP racing OB's. The 'toon at least has seating for eight! ;)

I think I'll stick with my 23 mph (WAO with a tailwind) pontoon, thank you very much. tongue.gif

A dealer pulled up to the dock where I worked with a 32 foot fishing boat with three 300 hp outboards. I asked him what he did with the extra two engines. I can see having a second engine as a back up, but two?

He uses the center one when he has a long way to go, both outside ones when he's in a hurry.
