Does anyone have experience importing an older boat into Canada from the UK?
In the past I've been able to bring in parts for my old Land Rover from the UK, and not had to pay any duty or taxes on them because they were for a vehicle that was at least 30 years old. I'm wondering if similiar rules apply to older boats?
If the boat is of a certain age are the taxes or duty waived?
What other fees will I be looking at?
Can I keep the boat registered in the UK to avoid registration costs in Canada? Or do I have to have citizenship there?
Am I forgetting anything important?
My next search will be the Federal Gov't of Canada website - but I thought I'd try here first.
Thanks
Stephen

There are no registration costs for most pleasure craft in Canada, and you must register the vessel if it is used in Canadian waters for most of the year. You will probably have to pay provincial sales tax based on the purchase price of the boat, and depending on which province you register. Some people register their boat in Alberta to avoid the tax, but you risk fines if it is not legitimate.
I doubt there is any duty on a boat that is 30 years old, especially if it comes from the U.K.
