We are tracing the history of the Sea Scout Ship "Manta". The vessel was donated to the Boy Scouts by the Navy after WW2 and is a 63 foot, 1944 Crash Rescue Boat (AVR). In the 1950's-70's the boat hauled 1000's of people and supplies b/t Long Beach and Catalina Island. It was sold in the 1970's. Sea Scout Ship 16, Islander (a frequent user in that timeframe) recently repurchased the vessel. It had been renamed Music Man 3 but the certificate still read Manta.
Also looking for any sea scout wooden boats or AVR operators that have a letter of agreement from the local USCG Marine Safety Office, to haul scout/youth groups or are T-boat certified. Thanks!

Mr. Ziegler,

I can't help with your query, but you aren't, by some odd chance, a graduate of Denison University? Unlikely, but I was a not-close acquaintance of a Dave Ziegler, years ago.

Welcome BTW.

Jack

Afraid I am not a Denison Graduate. San Diego State University if curiousity struck you. Thanks for the welcome. I hope there are some wooden boaters that may have some info on this nice wooden boat. All the best.
