A very satisfying moment for me personally - my friend Kate Lance has finally succeeded in getting her book about the pearling lugger "Redbill" published (by Fremantle Arts Centre Press) and it hits the bookstore shelves here tomorrow smile.gif . And published in it is a set of plans for "Redbill" that I drew up from measurements I took off her in Melbourne in 1998. As far as I know it's the first set of plans for a named pearling lugger to ever be published. Sure, as fame goes it's a very small cup to drink from, but I'm pretty chuffed about it neverthless - it makes a lot of hours spent crouching in the mud under the hulls of old luggers (usually in tropical heat and beset by clouds of fearless bloodsucking sandflies) wrestling with tape measures, offset frames etc. etc suddenly seem worthwhile.
The book itself, "Redbill: From pearls to peace - the life and times of a remarkable lugger" is beautifully written and a captivating read, highly recommended . The publishers weblink is here: http://www.facp.iinet.net.au/history.html#redbill
Cheers
