I drove to the local lake here with two of the children for a bit of rowing as there wasn't any wind today. Launched the boat and had the children hang onto the mooring line while I parked the van. As I approached the dock the scene before me was of my younger (more serious) one gesticulating at the middle child and both of them leering into the bottom of my skiff.

"Hey D-A-D!!!! There is a HOLE in the boat!!!!!"

THAT got my attention.

I broke into a trot and upon my arrival saw two spouts of water coming out of the centerboard case. The centerboard case which I had removed the centerboard from. Why not? Hey, we're just going to row around - who needs the centerboard anyway?

Well it seems you don't need the centerboard for rowing but you sure do need to plug the holes where the bolt goes through the centerboard case!!!! That would be the bolt safely resting back home on the work bench. Great.

A quick inquiry at the concession stand nearby brought out the duct tape and we were on our way. My youngest though had a very hard time taking his eyes off the tape. He knew all too well that tape 1/64" thick is all that was keeping us from living out our own Titanic adventure. :D
