Not the kind of shape I would normally associate with Alden. She's more like Georges 'Dalia' in type is she not.
We have one absolutely gorgeous Alden staysail schooner here called Lady Windermere. She's similar in hull shape the one above and most people think she's a Herreshoff because of the transom and clipper bow. It's not till you look closer that you see the fuller lines but even so I was surprised when the owner told me the actual designer.

Looks like shes 47 ft long.

Do you think I could single hand her???? ;)

Sure you can single-hand her, after a little practice. I single-hand Dalia, and I am not half the schooner man Ian is. You may have to redo some of the rigging, change some tackles from speed to power, and make all sheets run to the cockpit. Also, you might want to leave that fisherman staysail in the bag for when you have a few eager buddies along. But working sail would be a piece of cake - easier than a bermuda sloop of half the displacement.

Just read the info on e-bay - she'd be cake to sail shorthanded. Only 20 tons (Dalia is 35 tons), and five self-tailing winches! (Dalia has 4). Good solid epoxy-and-bronze construction. Nice!

Carrick and Henderson finishes at 1955 and that would seem to be the date that John G stopped participating in the firm. Someone here will know more about it no doubt.
So ,on the face of it,she would appear to be a later generation boat. Perhaps why she doesn't look like your typical Alden .

The only big boat I've ever sailed aboard was as a paying customer on a schooner almost exactly this size. Certainly gets one dreaming.

Yeah Hwyl. I have to admit it gets my goat. a bowsprit is a piece of wood. a spar. I wonder if they count the main boom overhang in that 62 ft figure as well.a marina managers measurement
I was so profoundly Pee'd off when they listed our boat as 47 ft in a really nice race catalogue in 2003. 41 '... FOR..TY..ONE .!!!
