I've talked my family into Mystic Conn. as the venue for this year's reunion. :D Anybody have suggestions about places to stay near the Seaport??? (Group of 15--18; age ranges from 8 to 80)Any suggestions about activities for land lubbers would also be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Dayton...Are you going to be mobile? I. E. vehicle without a keel....
I am very familiar with the area.as my father was the director of Mystic Seaport for 18 years,..but the entire area is changing as I write so there are going to be glitches.
If you are mobile, I have some suggestions...
What is the price range/room you are looking for?

UNCAS: I hope to be arriving by boat, but most of the clan will be driving, so mobility isn't a problem. Finding a place where minimal driving is required would be optimal, however. Price range somewhere around $200/room/night; could probably go higher if necessary. Thanks for your help!!!

Last time I was there the motel (I forget the name) just south of the interstate (I-95?) exit was decent enough and about a five or ten minute walt to the seaport - nice in that you don't necessarily need to drive and park.

Dayton:
Exit 90...Mystic Seaport exit has several motels...big chains at the junction of I-95...It is more than a ten minute walk with individuals over say 50...Have to go past the cemetery on the right. About a mile and a half.
Being a chain, they are not that bad price wise...and all of them are also next to the Mystic Aquarium which the kids ( or all ) would like...Not so much history jammed down their throats.
If you have cars, there is also the sub museum ( Nautilus )in Groton and I think there is a museum for the Stanley Steamer there as well. You also have the coast Guard Academy and the Eagle in New London.
In Mystic, I suppose you gotta go to the Mystic Pizza joint of movie fame. A small town...quaint in many ways....and yet, I am afraid a bit touristy....
If you are going by boat, make your reservations early...as in tomorrow...There are not many spaces available for boaters at the museum and they go fairly quickly.

I think that's a Howard Johnsons. I stayed there for the WoodenBoat Show and fount it to be an easy walk to the museum the night before the show. I am glad that I drove down the following day because hiking back in the heat with a pack full of goodies would have been too much.

There is a HoJo's but also a new one on the hill...right across the road...

Uncas/Tom/Sailman: Thanks very much for all the motel information, and the tip about booking a slip early with the Seaport.... I'm calling right now.

Dayton...Good luck and have a great time...When you are at the Seaport, check behind the planitarium for a small garden dedicated to my mother. Curious to know how it is withstanding the advent of time.

I stayed at the Whaler Inn when I was there. A few feet from the Mystic River bridge and about a five minute walk from the Seaport. The Inn was o.k., and it is very convenient.
