Old news, I'm afraid. I think the 20K Leagues ride became "Ariel's Lagoon" (or whatever they're calling it) 2 or 3 years ago. Around the same time that Mr. Toad's Wild Ride became the Winnie the Pooh ride.

I think a lot of people were influenced by those subs as a kid.

I always thought those plastic fish tied by strings looked fake - not at all like Pirates of the Caribbean...

My very favorite ride when I went to Disney World in '72 when I was 12. I would draw the boats and make up tales. I remember it as very inspiring. We took our kids there in '98 and it was GONE. I hope to never go back to Disney. Rick

I remember my first time in one of those subs. Realized then and there I would rather be sailing on TOP of the water then below the water. Coincidentally I found out I'm terribly claustrophobic

The Disney experience though was truly magical. As a kid I remember the bridges and forest and caves to crawl around that lagoon and the whole immersion like experience was jaw dropping. It wasn't the rides that had me hooked it was the set design on a grand scale. I felt a freedom that I felt again when I went with my daughter. We went to the new Disney animal park. It was a hot dusty day and I was in a replication of some African town looking out over the seringetti and the Jeeps that transported you out to the wilds. Sipping from my water bottle for a brief moment I felt as though I WAS on vacation in Africa. The immersion detail at Disney is par none, the scale is HUGE. We staid in Disney at the Wilderness Lodge the motif is that of a Pacific North West Lodge. I swear in the middle of FLA. I felt like I was in the PNW. The grounds were covered with big pine trees. There were pine needle covered trails all around and camping areas. Get this the trails had sculpted into them - deer tracks!!The attention to detail is amazing. The other amusing thing was all over the place through tiny speakers was theme music kinda like a John Ford movie. I remember getting up in the morning and walking to get some coffee hearing da dum da dum da da da dum feeling like the opening credits for the movie Stagecoach. It just put a bounce in my step and became very subliminal. When we got home and I woke up to make coffee I was like Awwwwwww where is my theme music :D

Joe,

If you liked Wilderness Lodge, next time you should stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge. They took it up a notch when they built that one.
