Since winter started early and hard here in upstate NY I did the only thing I could do...I built an indoor size boat!

And for scale, that's a quarter on the center seat.

And a close-up of rear seat cane work. It's not real cane, I used flat artificial sinew split into 4 pieces. Left everything beyond about 3 feet looking pretty fuzzy for several hours afterwards. smile.gif

Sure was fun though. Man, I can't wait for winter to be over.

Very pretty. What kind of boat is it? A little reminiscent of an Adirondak guide boat?

Sweet Looking Guide Boat!
The scale is deceiving until you look at the quarter.
Aces work....

Johannah, yep it's a Guideboat, 1:3 scale of the full size one I built last year. Color is different though, I wanted to see how it would look in green. I like blue better. You can see that one here (http://www.albany.net/~rmillet/guideboat.html) .
David, my wife asked me to build a couple of bookcase boats. Nothing's getting done in my unheated garage though until the weather changes.
Dave, I was going to post this pic first and see if anyone caught the squirrel tracks.

Would'a fooled me that shot in the snow.
Didn't you post that web site stuff in D&P some time back? It seems very familiar. NOT to take anything away from this accomplishment that is.

Yep, that was me. Thought Johannah might want to take a look. Can't help being self satisfied about that boat. It's my third one but is so far above the other two that I can't even bring myself to take them out anymore.

Hey Dick, If you hurry you can get the one for the other foot made just in time for "Pontoon Shoe Boating Season"...

Very Nice !
After that, a full-sized guide boat would be child's play.
What is the actual scale ?

After reading who knows how many come hither books about the Adirondacks, I'm still amazed to recognize the boat. Your full sized model is lovely but I like the green better. Sorry, just a traditionalist. tongue.gif
Beautiful work there Dick! I've always appreciated the work that goes into a full size guide boat. It must be three times moe for a 1/3 model! smile.gif

Todd, I thought about that but the cedar planks are only 1/16" thick. Maybe if I glassed the bottom. Do ya think we could get a traditional class created for the 2003 season? ;)
Paul, it's 1 to 3 scale, almost exactly, on everything. Couldn't find any screws though. It actually took just about 1/3 the time to build as its big brother in the garage. There's a big difference to fairing 1/16" planks compared to 1/4" strips.
Now I just had 16 1"x10"x8' very dark, clear, red cedar boards given to me. Anybody care to guess what's gonna be done with them?

Beautiful boat. :D What a tempting gift, all that cedar. I'm sure you'll come up with a project worth of a magazine cover. ;)
