I have this America's Cup art and would like some more information if possible. Any details about the race(s) or boats would be appreciated.
Here's what I know:
-It is an original
- I'm not sure if it's an only copy or if a number of copies were made?
-I think it's called a lithograph? (sort of like a silkscreen?)
-It's signed by the captains of the two boats: the Sovereign and the Constellation.
-It's hard to make out the signatures but they look like Newman and Nessman?
-It's done on a chart: Martha's Vinyard to Block Island
-It is dated 1964.
My sister gave it to me a number of years ago. I have never followed the America's cup too closely so I don't have any idea of the history of these boats or their captains.

Thanks
Steve
The Skippers of the American boat (Constellation) were jointly Bob Bavier and Eric Ridder, the Aussie boat (Sovereign) was I think, Peter Scott.
The Yanks trounced the Aussies BTW.
That chart includes Narraganset Bay and Newport. The base was at Newport most of the races in Narraganset bay.

Sovereign... an Aussie boat? really ?
I had to do a search... It's a classic English name thats all ,and thats what she was. I'm not surprised you thought she was Aussie. The races either side of 64 were( 1962 and 1967 Gretel and Dame Pattie)

I think Newman is the painter. He did lots of sports stuff in the 60's & 70's maybe more.

HWYL, SKIPPER I'm shocked. Too shocked to reply now ... I need a calming cup of tea ... and I don't even drink tea.
Warren.
ps, I'm back. It's alright I think, I'm stopping the hyperventilating ... but I'm still a bit dizzy.
pss, 1964: US Constellation defeated British Challenger Sovereign (4-0)

You aren't one of us, are you sure? ... then what am I doing talking to you.
(Back to) the America Cup (I'm a traditionalist) ... is the greatest thing ever to happen to competitive sailing.
We installed the ESPN channel, years ahead of time ... just so I can watch it. I don't want to find, closer to the event that I cant get a subscription to ESPN.
Last America Cup, I had Virtual Spectator. During the races the US viewers would come on 5 minutes before each rounding, ... freezing VS. I'm taking no chances with you guys this time.
It is always a pleasure talking to you Hwyl ... and come over here so we can discuss the size of that 'r'.
Warren.
