View Full Version : Does radar energy affect GPS antennae?

The gps antenna for my father's new chartplotter is pretty slick. It's designed to be semi-flush mounted in a horizontal surface, very low-profile. My concern is that the best location for such an installation is a maximum of 14" away from the radar transciever.
Will the pulse-pulse-pulse of the radar affect the gps?

it can....the GPS works at 1575 megahertz...actually a hair more....if the near field radiation is high enough it can overload the gps receiver front end (low noise amplifier/mixer)

Depends, L and S bands abut as do X and Ku. How big are your radar's off band lobes? and what is the band match-up?
