Why, its grey and its a Mercedes (190D?) Mercedes yep - but faded green, not grey, still has a bit of blue antifouling paint on the bonnet too - its a W126 500SE - used as the launch vehicle for the fishing boat / tender. The one in front is a 560SEC.

fluid regulator - no

fire hydrant - no

ugly anchor - getting warmer (ie it is boat related)

It's found art. A human figure with arms outstretched in welcome. Contrary to popular belief, found art did not have a Blue Period.

Its the "brains" for my gearchange mechanism on Grantala (50' 1937 Holmes Bros cruiser). My gearlevers connect via 1" steel rods to a lever on the other end of this. There is a solid steel centre to this device - with bearings at each end. The columns hold a ball bearing that has a spring behind it - which goes into a detent when in gear or in neutral.

I almost ditched it in favour of a Morse cable setup which I was going to adapt to the original gear levers - but it sandblasted OK and I could get it apart to check everything out - so its now back in service - complete with a thick coat of epoxy blue.

Something that you would crush your knuckles on in the daytime and stub your toe on at night.

Kind of tap. The base looks like a press and turn attatchment for a hydrant and the top (?) with the lever lifts aside to allow flow. Not for liquid, except maybe honey or thick oils, nor original color. Maybe for grain or other dry flowable solids?

Hey look up - the answer's there - no stubbing toes - it is bolted to the engine bearer just beside the gearbox and the gear lever rods run under the engineroom sole.

It's adorable. And cuddly. I bet it is very attractive to Smurfs.

Mate .. this is a windlass. I bought it this week on ebay. It weighs 35 kilos - about eight to ten times what the blue thingamyjig weighs.

Its a new old stock Nilsson - doesn't even have Maxwell on it - although their name is on some of the instructions - looks to be about 20 years old and never installed. The only negative that I can see about it is that the motor is built by the Prince of Darkness.

Think I ought to paint the windlass blue?
