A beligerent swan who was attacking PWCs on an inland lake was about to be hunted down and killed by the DNR in Michigan, when the governor intervened. The swan now is going to be captured, and taken into poiice custody by Bob Lutz, vice chairman of General Motors. Lutz is going to harbor the swan on his farm. Question now is how is the swan to be captured? I picture the DNR heading out on a squadron of PWCs., sort of like in Star Wars.

my guess is the swan was belligerent for a pretty good reason (i know i have been when it comes to noisy and destructive jet skis). i say go git 'em kid-why doesn't the dnr trap and capture the pwc's instead. i sure hope they don't kill my namesake.

Dan,
Where exactly is that lake? Could you post the text of the article?
Thanks,

They are very territorial buggers; SWMBO was chased off a beach in Scotland by a mad momma swan after we had tried taking pictures of her brood.

Thank's a lot Dan. I kind of identify with that swan and needed to find out as much as I could so as to be able to refine my PWC tactics.
Steven, It's me alright but I don't lurk around here much... just when I am hiding out from a hurricane at my daughter in law's house with all these damned cats.
Joy to you all.

Hi Robb,
I just wanted to add that I enjoy your articles in MAIB as well. My son doesn't even bother to ask me why I'm laughing in the bathroom anymore :D . I'll look forward to a swan reference in a future article. -LB

Nice to see Lutz acting like a community Leda.

He was also suppose to help SAAB not be destroyed by GM so lets see what happens!

Even without cygnets they can be agressive critters. Impressive too!
The Mute Swans I encountered occasionally in N. Michigan were intimidating on land, unless you were prepared to fight them. A quick whack with a stout stick would have done the trick. But if you were willing to surrender the field they were more than willing to take it, LOL. Head about to my mid-body, wings half-spread, loud hissing.
More impressive than a goose with a head of steam up, and geese can be pretty damn impressive. They use those wing bones as a club and have been known to kill cats and small dogs, IIRC.
And simply gorgeous. I'd love to see the balance swing toward the swan and away from the PWCs, but the swan don't pay taxes.
An imported European species.

I hope Don Quixote doesn't find himself caught up in the Nutcracker instead.....

Dang, and that's how they treat the poor bird for performing a public service!
