I think Junkyard Wars needs to hire them full time. They rock! They should also be given full US CitizenShip. I think that Bush should invite them to the White House.

They *do* exhibit a certain innovative spirit dont they? They probably dont have a criminal record though, I believe the US only accepts Cuban refugees that are prison fodder.

I'm just sorry word got out before they got here. Had they made it ashore, they could stay (and they'd probably get a ton for the Buick, not to mention their stories).

Hopefully, they'll make it before anti-chance catches up to them.

They need a car that just drives on the bottom of the ocean like the Mach 5 did in Speed Racer. Then they would make it for sure. hehe

When thay tried it in the Chevy truck with the yellow canvas "bimini", I thought their choice of colors was part of the problem. They didn't do much better this time.

I'm basically in favor of this kind of thing, althought I realize the difficult position it puts the Coast Guard in. Maybe someone here could come up with the correct prop to allow them to do a night passage. They seem to be able to find enough motor.

I thought it was a dirty, low down shame when the Coast Guard sank their Chevy truck last year. At the time, one of them was quoted as saying that their rig was so cool they thought the US would let them in even if they were intercepted. And I thought so, too.

Herar Hear!! Full marks for enterprise, innovation, nerve and thinking outside the square. Ideal citizens I would say!

I wish they would show better pictures of the car.

TimH: I have a lot of empathy for these Cubans, and I want to go on record as objecting to their being called crazy.

Is it crazy to re-design/re-build two different vehicles that were in the process of successfully crossing the Florida Strait in a desperate bid for the freedom we take almost for granted?

Agreed, MJC.

It's not crazy.

It's courageous and noble to strive for the most basic of all human rights beyond self-defense.

And it's inexcusable to send them back.

The President should be ashamed of himself for letting it happen.

Alan

This was the best picture I could find of the car...

It looks like they added something to the front to give them more speed/less drag.

I like the guys sitting on the roof.

I'm editing this to add that those guys are cool! This dude is even hanging his arm out the window in a cool way. They know how to cruise in style. Good stuff...

Sorry for the repost from the Bilge...
