I have three rifles that I no longer use (I have fallen asleep on the deer stand too many times.) and I would like to sell them to finance my next boat project. I post this here because because I don't want my query to get lost in the politics of the bilge and I am going to use the funds to rescue an old beauty.

What is the best way to sell rifles? I have a pre-1964 Winchester Model 94 (no bluing left, perfect working order), a British 303 and a Savage Model 340 (30-30). I have tried looking in the gun pages but there are too many of them for me to figure out how best to unload these guns.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

I've bought guns sight unseen over the internet, but only from members of a hunting forum (much like this one) whom I trusted.

If you choose to sell it to someone out of state, you'll need to use an Federal Firearm Licenced dealer. It's commonly referred to as an FFL and most gun shops will provide the service for about $25. The buyer will send you a signed copy of a FFL in his state, you have an FFL send the rifles to that FFL, the buyer goes in and fills out the yellow back ground check form (and any other state required forms) and it's a done deal.

For reference, I found these listed at GunsAmerica...

Win94 1 (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976452118.htm) Win94 2 (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976500985.htm) Win94 3 (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976467587.htm) Savage 340 (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976501473.htm)

Hope that helps a bit.

I've bought and sold on Auctionarms.com and Gunbroker.com a half dozen times with no problems.
