Steve Fosset and the international crew of "Cheyenne" FKA Playstation have set a new world record 58 days 9 hours. http://www.ybw.com/auto/newsdesk/20040306013847ywnews.ht ml (http://www.ybw.com/auto/newsdesk/20040306013847ywnews.html)

I know it will be distained by some forumites. I for one am excited, a well executed trip, all breakages fixed underway. Congratulations Lady and Gentlemen

He did it, AND he thumbed his nose at the folks who run the Jules Verne trophy. I love it! Because he refused to pay their fee before starting and using their approved start/finish, he doesn't hold the trophy. But it's still the fastest, and they can't take that away from Fossett and his impressive team.

To put it in perspective, there is another RTW record attempt going on right now with a big trimaran. They've been unlucky with weather and breakages and as of this morning haven't yet rounded Cape Horn. And they aren't ahead of Fossett's record either. THis is a tough game these guys are playing. Dangerous, too.

My hat's off to anyone who has the guts to go balls-to-the-wall in the Southern Ocean.

The man is obsessed. More power to him. I'm looking forward to his next round the world attempt.
