I buy old sailing books when I see them. I've never tread the internet road for purchasing them but I'll always have a gander at a second hand bookshop.
Often when I buy one, I won't see the same again for years if not ever.I've never seen another copy of 'commonsense' in a shop. Or 'yacht cruising' by Worth.Or the blue books by Fox.

So true, John! I got my Worths in used book shops, though. And, the blue Uffa Fox volumes used to be in the library years ago, but, unfortunately, someone with fewer scruples than me... LOL Fox's books are being reprinted in quality paperback now. The first is his Yacht Design and Construction, or whatever it's called. I grabbed me one!

"Commonsense" has never turned up on any of the used book places I've searched. I got my copy from the old Dolphin Book Club when it was a free selection if you signed up. That was when they published the two volumes in one back in the early seventies. (BTW, nothing was lost in the two in one volume... compiled by LFH and published posthumously. His half-completed foreward is included.)

You've just got to grab em when you see em. ;)
It was a buzz to read Yacht Cruising and then crawl all over one of the boats in it.
geez.. 13 copies from $30 1934 edition to $220 US for the 1910 edition!!!

CSOYD is a compilation of articles written for Rudder through the 40's /50's isn't it.? I'm sure it is,now I think about it. I discovered that when I bought a stack of old Rudders and found myself re reading snips from 'commonsense'.

Bookfinder.com is the most extensive search engine I know for books. It searches abe, alibris, amazon and foreign sites.

I second Dave. Bookfinder.com is amazing. They don't sell the books, but tell you who on the net does.
