An early sign of Spring, the batteries report to Spring Training today! Baseball season's coming!

And, sadly, cricket season's virtually over. Now the papers are full of football pre-season training reports.

Pleasant thought, but somewhat unrelated to boats, don't you think? ;)

Is the bilge too hostile to entertain conversations about baseball?

I actually intended to post it in P&P, but it was early.

Yes, the bilge is too hostile.

Bringing it back to boats
Provides great background noise while working on the boat(s)..

very few things are better to listen to than the Uek (Bob Uecker) warble on about some bygone story of his mediocre career while intermittently relating to us the game on the field-which usually involves some, although less recently, tragic way in which the eternally hapless Milwaukee brewers have managed to play themselves out of a win. His booth partner, James (Jim) Powell can usually be counted on to then rip the team apart and keep it real for all us masochist life-long Brewer fans here in WI. I was nine when the Brewers were last respectable (1989...i am sure i'll get an earful from a bunch of disinfranchised brooklyn fans about that being only 17 years ago and at least i still have a team and yes the L.A. dodgers are indeed dead to them), and they were still a member of the deplorable AL (deplorable is probably too strong a word, i really don't care about rule differences like i used to). anyway, here is to the glimmer of hope that the Brew crew are tracking upwardly mobile in the NL central. Or, rather, the rest of the NL central is tracking down. spring hopes attorney!

The first baseball game I ever listened to was in '53, when the Braves moved to Milwaukee.

College ball started here two weeks ago. It's 70 degrees, humid, and very windy today outside. Just right for playing ball.

I was able to attend a game at 'the Jake' last year when we took the Dragon up to Cleveland Race Week (how's that for a boat tie-in?). Hope to do a repeat this year.

Our department in Connecticut had a secretary that went south with her friends for spring training every year. I don't think she played baseball.
