Well I missed "Rainbow slap!... "Tribal Warrior" when she was in Mandurah on her journey around Aussie... no publicity whatever until after she had gone! and then only a minor note in the local rag. :rolleyes:

Anyway having recieved word from TonyH in Sydney that "Tribal Warrior" had arrived in Sydney Town on the last leg of their circumnavigation he sent through a photo...

A great Aussie "Cooooeeeeeeeeeeeeee" if you please :D

I give you the 104 year old Broome Pearling Lugger "Tribal Warrior" :cool:

To give you the scant info I have on her she was launched as the "Mina" in 1899 at Thursday Island... she is owned by Aboriginals and is used for charter work and to train young Aboriginals in the ways of the sea.

The recent circumnavigation was probably more important in many ways that that of the "Flinders Voyage Reenactment" by the "Windeward Bound" in that she has a full compliment of Aboriginal crew and stopped at over 120 communities in her circumnavigation... adding totems from the local Aboriginal communities as they went through... many are burned into the woodwork... but they gained very little by way of publicity or financial reward for doing so and definantly very little media hype of coverage. :rolleyes:

Im sure that Tony will have a far greater knowledge of "TribalWarrior" and will impart that to us if wanted by those who may possibly be interested... if not then email me with it all mate!! ;)

Note the flag shown between the masts... if you dont know... is the Aboriginal Land Rights flag of the Aboriginal people of Australia... just a small FYI ;)

edited to add... Soooo I like rainbows... and I seem to have rainbows on me brain when ever I think about her for some flamin reason unknown to anyone including me... sue me!

Edited to add... the whole history of the Pearling industry here is actually flamin fascinating... the boats the builders the seamen the pearl divers the japanese the kooris the whole shemeel is fascinating... showing a few boats which me and Tony have over the last year or so is only the tip of the iceburg... but like most things only fascinating if theres interest when theres no interest it looses its fascination except to those interested enough to show an interest.

They were great boats mate :cool: ...beauty being in the eye of the beholder etc etc

intresting name "rainbow warrior"

btw their is a group that some ways goes back to woodstock in 1969 of the counter culture called the "rainbow family of lightness living" or more commonly just the rainbow family. and they will hold their anual gathering in utah this year, maybe as many as 20,000 eople camp for a few days or a week in a national forest and the authorities are poping blood vessels and putting out all kind of negitive publisity.

have you read the bill of rights where I think it says " the right of the people to assemble shall not be infringed , unless it it is more than 75 and the government doesn't like you...<g>" ah well and the still call it a free country

neat thing about this forum is that you should not worry about writing and whos intrested because some of find you always intresting and those who do not can skip it.

On a cross country trip a few years ago my aqauintance wanted to stop at The Rainbow festival .One of those missed opportunities.

Er slight correction, she's actually named "Tribal Warrior" but otherwise Shane is correct. These guys have done a fantastic job, taking a 104 year-old wooden working boat (still working, too) right around Australia (that's a lotta miles, near 10,000 I'd guess, and some serious bits of blue water) with a crew of young Aboriginal lads. All in good order and no fuss, outstanding work.

She's a very interesting boat, too, one of the oldest luggers still afloat (along with RoseF, built the same year in Perth) and quite different to the "typical" pearling lugger. She's still in very good shape and a credit to her crew.

I can't understand the lack of media coverage of the Tribal Warrior - perhaps because the crew were doing something worthwhile and positive and doing it well. Sadly, our media seems more interested when it can sink the boots in.

Good effort by the boys. Lovely boat too.

As for being multiligual, the average aussie speaks at least three languages fluently - English, Australian and Profanity (an observation credited to Gelignite Jack Murray).
