View Full Version : Beaufort WB Show
It is still a few months off but wonder if any of the forum group will be attending the Beaufort, NC boat show. Last year was a bust with raining buckets.

Paul,
My brother and I would like to make it again this year. Couldn't make it last year so the rain didn't bother me.

I suppose that you could call it a bust, from the weather standpoint. However, there were some very nice boats there. We crowded most boats into the Watercraft Center and it made things very cozy. There were also some boats outside that many thought worth standing in the rain to see.
No one controls the weather. The previous year, the weather was fine from a spectators view but the people who went out in boats got blown about pretty good. I took part in the Sprits'l race and was frankly glad when our jib halyard parted so we could retire gracefully.
Tom, I had my Haven there last year. You were right, during the lulls plenty of people came by. It was almost claustophopic in the boat center with people trying to get out of the rain and looking at the boats.
It did clear up around 3 PM and I enjoyed talking to all the people that came by. The
bar-b-que dinner that night for the participants was fun.
Are you part of the staff at the museum?

No, but I do get there fairly often since I live only about 45 miles away. You may know that since Roger quit his job as boatbuilder there, the state dropped the job from the budget in the money crunch. It may be difficult getting it reinstated. Volunteers are doing most of the work nowadays but most normal activities are still getting done.

Bill, look up:

Or you can just show up on May 3 at the Maritime Center Watercraft Center on the waterfront. Turn to the right after crossing the drawbridge going into Beaufort, left when you get to the water and there you are.

Since I end up outside and exposed to the elemets, the three times I signed up early it rained or blew me off the grass. For this reason, I have been reformed to registering Sat. Morn. But that puts me out of the food court that night unless some soul will share or purchase tickets for me. Hopefully three boats this year. ;)
