I remember this happening, during the Afghan war, IIRC, but I hadn't seen this video (http://www.ennui.net/~donn/misc/navyhelicopter_1.wmv).

He started to lift off again. Maybe if he'd powered up he could've avoided a stall.

IIRC, nobody made it out alive. :(

You can see that the aft left gear caught the 'safety netting' and that actually the pilot adding collective (power) caused the helo to veer left and back off, then invert into the water. Of course, the pilot didn't know that, and shouldn't be second guessed.

But from what I understand, it was a training exercise, and yes, they came in a bit too fast.

That's what happens in the military, even during training exercises.
