This morning I was looking through a pile of books that were set aside to go to the Friends of the Library book sale and pulled this one out. I thought maybe someone here might be interested in it. I'll send it if you are. It's free to a good home

This is a hardcover book by Donald and David Rouse published in 1965 which shows the building of a small plywood sailing pram. Looks like all the info needed to build the boat is there although not presented in the traditional manner of boat plans.

If anyone wants it, let me know.

Dave that sounds like a great book and I would love it, but I'm afraid it would probably be wasted on me. So lets wait and see if somebody more deserving wants it. If nobody else does, remember I posted first. smile.gif

Very nice of you, although one problem that might arise there is that the construction methods have changed.
No stitch'n'glue back then: you had to build a whole structure using moldings, bevel the frames, then only could you glue and screw the plywood panels onto the woodwork.
Took a whale of a building time. And ate up some inner space.
There are scores of such plans, at Svensons' or the like, that are now free of rights.
Not implying that such a construction method doesn't make good boats any more, au contraire.
But it should be your choice.
It's more appropriate for a skin on frame project, mostly canoes and kayaks.

Cheers

Eric, it's just an old book. It doesn't matter that building methods have changed since then. I wasn't suggesting that anyone build the boat or anything. It might still be interesting to someone. If you're not interested, fine. Why bother to belittle my offer?

Dave,
Fine offer, and would love the book; however, I would be a dead man if little Jenny saw another boat building book on my shelves :D or (egads) heard another request for materials $ to build that boat. Therefore, like chad, it'd be wasted on me.

Figured I'd give the thread a bump nonetheless.

2 years ago I checked that book out of my local library and built the boat in it. Other that substituting thickened epoxy for seam putty, the construction methods were unchanged. I did add some box structures under the bow and stern seats for floatation. Nice boat but if I built it again I'd add about a foot to it's length.

Venchka, I finally got to the P.O. about an hour ago. It's coming first class so you should get it within the next month. tongue.gif

I hear you! I used Global Priority recently. Took 7 days for a 3 day delivery 20 miles beyond the U.S. border.

Thanks again! I guess I'll have to build this boat now. :D

Wayne, it'll make a good tender. Now, it's Friday. You'd best get moving so you can fulfill your end of the deal. :D tongue.gif

Dave,

The book arrived while I was playing with Elisabeth Grace. Thanks! The book is all paid for-we ate alligator & crawfish at the Swamp Festival. Highly recommended, by the way! Then, to make sure I held up my end of the deal, we went to a local "hole in the wall" and gorged on all you can eat fried shrimp! It was a nasty job and way too much to pay for the book, but somebody had to do it! :D

Oh, here's a peek at Elisabeth Grace...

Do I seem excited? Well, kinda sorta maybe...YOU BET! :D

Now, I think the big boat needs a tender. Opening the book... :D

Wow, that's more than I expected. Sounds like you did a good job of paying for that book. smile.gif

I'm still jealous of you for all that food you got to eat and now for your new boat. She's a beauty.

By the way, if you're looking for some place to travel to come on up. It's almost time for the lutefisk and meatball dinners at the Lut-ern churches around here. :D

If you saw my expanding girth, you wouldn't be jealous at all.

Lake Wobegon country, eh? I expect a nice sailboat could find some good water up that way some day. You can keep the fish.

Oh yeah, lots of places to sail. You could certainly bring ELISABETH GRACE up and take her out on Lake Pepin.
