Greetings, thought i'd share a few pics of trip to vietnam last week. (Ha Long bay area)

Felt alot like a tourist as we were on a big steel (fake) paddle steamer replica,

everytime we slowed up or stopped for a look at something we got surrounded by people begging for money in what looked to be woven boats with a tar coating?? (I'm sure Luke or someone can tell me what they are really made of)

The amount of tourism going on was a real eye opener, lots of converted junk type boats out and about full of back packers etc... note the floating houses in the background which seemed to be built on huge pieces of polystyrene...

Lots of people with larger boats with belt driven outboards around too noisey little buggers they were.

had to include this last pic because it looked empty but was well down on it's lines!!

 pics!
Especially the junk rig. It looks more like a batwing with the mast location.

The belt driven sampan is sorta like a weed whacker with a small proppellor ususally made from twisted flat metal...the woven boats are bamboo with a tar or pitch coating....some of them are like the long tail boats that you find in Thailand...

I always thought Vietnam was one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Except for the all bomb craters. I want to visit some day.

Great pics. Especially the little sanpan.
Thanks.
