You beat me to it. Glad to hear she's ok. PFDs & tethers, anyone?

It is estimated that the woman swam for between eight and nine hours in the chilly water of the Georgia Strait, without a lifejacket.

...

But she was eventually found about 24 kilometres away – on the other side of Georgia Strait, just off Galiano Island – by another sailboat not involved in the search.Average speed: 2.7km-3km/hr. I wonder how long that trip would take in a Tideway 14? Or a Weekender? :D

This one is even scarier!

As children, we regularly swam all day at Reid State Park and at Popham Beach (in Maine), where the water was routinely 60 degrees F. or less.

Remember the fisherman who swam ashore, several miles, after his boat sunk in the Atlantic South of Iceland several years ago?

When he got ashore, he walked a few miles to the nearest house...

Peoples' reactions to these kinds of things seem to vary.

Hypothermia is bad, of course, but seems occasionally to be over-hyped.

It's an amazing story all right.
I'm a bit puzzled as to how you can hit something hard enough to be thrown off a boat , but not hard enough to wake up the 2 guys below.
Has anything been said about that?Or am I misreading the article?
any photos of the boat or type available ?

"Paysen said alcohol was a factor in this incident...

When the boat was reached by rescuers, two men who had been sleeping below deck when the boat was grounded were found."

Hung-over, perhaps???

why are we assuming she fell off when the boat ran aground? If the tiller was on auto and she was out for a walk...

Is it the boat or the sailor who is the problem?

"The Benedicte is the same sailboat in which Slovarich said she fell from July 13 when a wave hit the vessel."

That website ought to be ashamed!

"Coast guards towed the Benedicte back to shore and an inspection of the vessel showed the keel was missing"

That can be a problem.
