I found a couple of sailboats to crew on this spring and summer.
I recieved this email today

I received your email. I race two boats on different occasions in your area. Weekends we race out of Nyack Boat Club on a C&C 30.

Wednesday night we race a Catalina 34 tall rig on Haverstraw Bay. We are always looking for crew (newby or otherwise).
Feel free to contact me via email or phone. I can't wait sounds like a blast and a great way to increase my sailing experience and knowledge.

Go for it. then find out if its a yelling skipper/crew or not. If it is , jump ship.

Thanks John I'm old enough to read people well enough to know the difference between a good skipper and a bad one. My need is to learn more about the wind and the waves. The competitive side of me like the racing part ;) But thanks for the heads up.

Spiffy new machine or not, we still don't have a green-with-envy graemlin. :(

I am going to take one of my bosses up on ride to the Miami Boat Show on a 30' this weekend :cool:

You're going to go from St. Augustine to Miami this weekend?? What kind of boat, and how long do you expect the trip to take?

A couple of interesting features on that boat, Margo; the mainsheet traveller and the pushpit seats. I'd be interested in your comments on both after your cruise.

Joe, have fun racing this year. I hate to start this argument on the WBF, so let me just say, if you REALLY want to learn about racing, get yourself hooked up in a one-design fleet. There you'll learn not only how to do things on racing boats, but WHY you are doing them. The intensity level is x10 compared to the normal PHRF guy.

There are exceptions to this, but not many. People will flame away. Let them. I've done both for 30 years, now. Try it. You'll see.

Joe, I agree with Mickey. I've sailed on several PHRF boats, including a world champion (Frers 33). I'm now having the time of my life sailing single handed in invitational regattas in NJ (100 miles each way). This summer, SWMBO and I will drive to Michigan (900 miles)for the CLYC Woodpussy invitational regatta in August. I still frequently sail my Able Poitin 24' and overnight it often but my biggest thrill comes from the Woodpussy competitions. In the 1950's my home club was Shattemuc on the Hudson at Ossining. I have fond memories of racing Lightnings at Nyack Boat Club at invitational regattas. They had a great group of sailors. When I sailed my Able 24' up the Hudson in 2001 we made a stopover there on the way up and then on the way down the river. The folks there did everything possible to make our stay a blast. Get your coffee and "Breakfast Roll" at the "Runsible Spoon" a few blocks from the club for a most enjoyable treat. Regards, Tony

there's plenty of good performing skippers out there who scream and yell Joe.
But life is to short to sail with a dummy spitter.
( hang on : translation as soon as I can remember what you guys call a dummy :D ).....

The bridge openings in the Waterway Guide are Wrong...Check the openings before you head down the int. coastal...Just went through from Marathon to West Palm...
Real bummer if you go by the guide.

We were using a 2004 guide...Where the guide listed openings at the 1/4 hour,( 0900-0915-0930-0945 etc ) they were ALL Half hour.
Was at my boatyard today checking on Uncas and there was a new 2005 guide in the office...not the Waterway Guide...same publisher however...( a book specifically for available Marinas on the waterway ) which listed the same times. Have a feeling no one checked!!!!!
I would suggest that you count on a 1/2 hour openings at ALL bridges...i.e., 0900 and then 0930 etc.
I found that some of the currents were racing through some of the bridges and believe me, I would not want to be waiting for a bridge with a 4+ knot tail wind...It was a bit rough...and I would guess that your Concordia is as reverse friendly as my SW 34....
P. S... as usual, the bridge tenders don't respond unless you have the entire...(complete) name of the bridge correct in your transmissions....
Perhaps something to do with ego or just being....well...
