A small group of nicely restored Hunter owners have tried and failed to find anything about the history of the company. This is Hunter Boat Corp from Suisun, Ca. Not Hunter Marine (glass sailboats).
We found and old ad from a Hunter Dealer from the 1930's. Apparently the company goes back in some form to 1904 or so. Earlier on the built runabouts and later (post WWII) built mostly twin screw sedan types from about 32'- 42'. Hunter seems to have petered out in the mid to late 60's. Lots were produced and plenty of the models from the 50's & 60's are still floating on the west coast. Not a lot of good examples left today though. They were a lower frills alternative to Chris Craft and Stephens and most probably suffered poor maintenance. Well built though...a few of us are keeping the faith.
Any info or research strategies might be helpful. Thanks.
already tried Suisun business records, sigh.
