Has anyone here any experiance with the John Henry Inc. scarfer jig as advertized in the back of WB?

I have one and like it a lot. I had built a router jig and was disappointed with the setup time and end result. The John Henry jig is easy to use and quite fast, about twenty passes for 1/4 inch ply. I actually remade all of the scarf joints on my 12 foot skiff, "Swift", after I tried the John Henry. Saves a lot of time and delivers a great joint.

Ditto Neal's post. I've been using the John Henry scarfing jig for some years, and it works great. For a really precise scarf, you might want to do the final touches with a block or smooth plane.

Does this jig lend itself to working against a fence for accuracy and repeatability?

There is a fence built-in which rides along the edge of the piece you are planing. (Ultimately the thin edge) I use a backer board under the plywood to protect that thin edge and it is the guide for the jig.
